I bought this bike from a guy in N. Carolina
who claimed that his grandfather bought it for him and saved
it until he was old enough to ride. He also claimed that he
didn’t know where the 1,500 miles came from on the engine,
so I bought it pretty much sight un-seen. He had kept it in
the garage with a tarp on it all these years and his wife
wanted a new refrigerator and figured he would price the
bike for what the fridge would cost. Upon receipt of the
bike, I discovered a pretty nice bike, but a few anomalies.
The exhaust pipe was cut off about 2-3 inches from the back
with what looked like a band saw. The seat was only about
1” thick, but the original cover was still on it. The HONDA
on the back was wrapped around underneath and barely
showed. But.....it did run and drive.
Notice the serial number
of this bike. According to Honda records, about 78,000
SL70 K0's were registered as sold for warranty purposes.
Obviously at least 84,757 were built. This is the
highest serial number I've seen. Anyone have a higher
one?
Update: This bike has now been
completely restored and I've changed the color to Aquarius
Blue. I found a donor tank with original badges and
couldn't resist having a blue one. The engine was
completely rebuilt and I'm in the process of breaking it in.
Right now it has a place of prominence in my living room.
I'm working on
reproducing the SL70 Tank Badges. If you are
interested in some, a pre-order(no money needed) would be
nice!
