Mercury Cougar Eliminator
VIN# 9F91M563409

I spotted this car on a
small used car lot in Oklahoma City and it was complete with
white wall tires and because the car had been repainted, it
was missing part of the Eliminator stripe. The hood
scoop and rear wing were intact as well as all the
Eliminator specific interior pieces.
This car was my only car
for quite a long time. I used it to tow my Kawasaki
GPZ1100 to the race track and then later restored the car
when I was able to afford a pickup truck. Then the car
got taken apart again and made into a bracket racer.
Look through the pictures to see the transformation.
The car had a 351 Windsor
and would run 11.70 with a small shot of NOS and would run a
high 12 with just the engine. I had a spare set of
Magnum 500's for the rear with some little 9" slicks so I
actually drove it on the street that way for some time.
I converted the car to a top-loader 4-speed and ran 4.56
gears with a detroit-locker rear end.
While I had this car I
joined the Cougar Club of America and later started the
registry for Eliminators and kept those records for several
years. I took this car to many car events and never
stopped having fun with it. I had such a desire to own
a Shelby Mustang for many years, but couldn't afford to buy
one. I had someone come up and offer to trade me for a
1968 Shelby GT350. I did, and was ultimately
disappointed in the Shelby and sold it fairly quickly.
